President Tsai touts Hakka towns for spring flowers

"Flowers are blooming and the 2019 Hakka Tung Blossom Festival has just begun. All visitors are invited to join the festival!"  The 2019 Hakka Tung Blossom Festival was inaugurated at New Era Art Resort & Spa in Puli, Nantou today (13th). A sky-worship ceremony was held, as hosted by President Tsai Ying-wen and accompanied by Minister Lee Yung-te of the Hakka Affairs Council. Following traditions, they paid tribute to deity "Bo Gong" and expressed gratitude for nature. President Tsai noted that, since the festival was held for the first time, it has become a much grander event by the year. Now, to visitors, Tung blossoms represent Taiwan, just like cherry blossoms represent Japan. The president invites people home and abroad to appreciate Tung blossoms in Taiwan's Hakka towns in April and May, and take a walk along one of the 14 flower-watching trails in Taoyuan, Hsinchu and Miaoli, as carefully selected by HAC. The romantic aura cannot be enjoyed elsewhere!
Minister Lee noted that the festival is in its 18th this year (2019), and today it is considered Taiwan's largest Hakka cultural event. A total of 14 counties and cities join force to organize this year's festivity. According to statistics, last year, more than a million foreign visitors watched flowers in these Hakka counties and cities, generating more than NT$20 billion of revenues. This has helped to boost cultural tourism in Hakka towns.
