The most romantic Hakka fest kicked off along Provincial Highway 3

Today (13th), a press conference was held for the opening of the 2018 Hakka Tung Blossom Festival. Minister of the Hakka Affairs Council Lee Yung-te noted that the festival has become an interntional event this year, as it has just been listed for the first time in the “Taiwan Tourism Events” by the Tourism Bureau, MOTC. This year, Tung flowers and Hakka villages being the sources of inspirations, eight environmental theatre shows and 18 landscape music concerts will be held. Many more events will also take place, and all members of the public are cordially invited to visit Taiwan’s Hakka villages with family and friends for this “most romantic festival held along Provinical Highway 3.” The 2018 Hakka Tung Blossom Festival will keep going until May 20 amid much fanfare. The HAC has carefully selected 116 flower-viewing sites and trails for visitors, and brochures in Mandarin, English and Japanese are provided. This year, 14 counties and cities organized this grant event together with the HAC. Taking the theme of “leisurely trips to Hakka villages,” performing artists and musicians are invited to give environmental theatre shows and landscape music concerts inspired by Tung flowers and Hakka villages. This series of cultural events are not to be missed. In particular, the innovate “Legend of Moutnain Tung Blossoms” will be performed on April 28 and 29 at the Lin Family Shrine Park, Liuzhangli, Zhubei City, Hsinchu County. The story is based on Tung flowers, and it turns mysterious allegories into a musical suitably for all. People from all over the country are cordially invited to view Tung flowers and appreciate beautiful Hakka culture in Hakka villages in April and May.

Taichung to hold Xin Ding Ban Festival

The 2018 Xin Ding Ban Festival of Taichung, held by Dongshi District Office, Taichung City, will take place amid much fanfare from March 2 (Fri.) to 4 (Sun.), 2018 in Dongshi, a mountain town of Taichung. Internationally renowned designer Cheng Yung-chi created a visual theme which emphasizes “Xin Ding Ban” for the festival. The theme is accompanied by special illustrations which highlight Dongshi’s nature and culture. Calligraphic writings by young talents bring all modern and traditional elements together, making the festival site lively, joyful, and welcoming. To further create a festive atmosphere, in Dongshi Old Train Station and Hakka Culture Park and Wenhua Street, there are art installations which introduce Dongshi’s local features. For sure, these places are adorned with bright red lanterns. It can be said that the festival site is an innovative, gigantic piece of landscape art. From the lunar New Year till the Lantern Day, visitors can expect to have a carnivalesque experience in Dongshi. Finally, a modern, 400-centimeter-tall installation and an impressive wood sculpture “Xin Ding Ban” awaits people at Dongshi Bridge Entrance ( Dongshi side). On February 24 (Sat.) and 28 (Wed.), at Fuxing Temple and Liyu Gong Park of Shicheng, Cuan-Le-Ge Puppet Troupe and Ming Hwa Yuan Arts & Cultural Group will give outdoor performances. From March 1 to 3, at the main stage of Dongshi Old Train Station and Hakka Culture Park, one show will be performed at 7pm. On March 1, Ming Hwa Yuan will dedicate a special Taiwanese opera show “Story of the Dark Warrior”. On the Lantern Day of March 2, Rom Shing Hakka Opera Troupe will tell the “Story of a Salt Jar.” On March 3, famous Hakka singers Liu Shau-Hi and Ayugo Huang will sing for visitors. Local Hakka music groups such as Abibai Live Band, JanuS Band, Hungyun Women’s Music Association Chorus, Dongshi Farmers’ Association Zhongruan Class, and Sounds of Dajia River Chorus will play traditional Hakka music and sing traditional mountain songs and modern songs to celebrate the event. More fun activities are to take place. For two days in a row on March 2 and 3, at Dongshi Old Train Station and Hakka Culture Park, a 60kg Xin Ding Ban will be on display. A Ding Ban-making contest for teams and a “passing down happiness” event will be held. At temples near Wenhua Street, similar activities will take place, such as Ding Ban-making contests for individuals, as well as rituals for people to ask for a new baby from gods, for good luck at work and school, and for general blessings in life. “Firecracker attacks” as a kind of celebration will kick off, too. All these are especially designed for visitors to explore hospitable Dongshi. The organizer cordially invites people to visit Taichung’s mountain town, Dongshi. Registration for countryside sports game has started

Registration for the Oct. 28 sports game already kicked off! Only 30 places are available, so register with your friends fast! This is a game for those who love adventures. The participants must complete each challenge within limited time. Each team may consist of four members. Physical strength and team spirit are the keys to wining the game. The team which finishes all the challenges in the shortest time is the winner. [Rules] Four people makes a team (two men, two women, at least 16 years of age). Each time, four teams will take the challenges together. The challenge may be completed either individually or as a team. The teams will have to take the flags at the ending point to show that they have completed the challenges. [Content] Climbing Mountains: The four members of a team must climb a dirt wall. Ropes will be provided. Crossing Barriers: The four members of a team must jump through an area that's filled with car tiles. Hunting in the Mud: The four members of a team must find six balls of the same color in the mud. Working Together: The four members of a team must roll the straw circle to a designated place. The Great Archer: The four members of a team must shoot the straws to a designated spot. Sending Supplies: The four members of a team must send a pole to a designated site. Throwing Balls: The four members of a team must make a line in a 3 by 3 grid. Flags of Victory: The four members of a team must pass a wood walk and take their flag.
